Yanny Petters is a botanical portraitist working exclusively from life (not photography). She paints in a variety of media including verre églomisé, or painting on glass. This is an old technique she has been developing to suit her plant portraits since her years working as a signwriter in Dublin and London during the 1980s, when plant themes were common in decorative design.
Yanny also creates ‘nature prints’ by applying water-based ink to a pressed plant or flower. It’s a printing method Leonardo da Vinci experimented with and it was used in Renaissance medical and herbal books.
Yanny’s work has been exhibited widely in Ireland, and at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and Kew Gardens in London. She is a member of the Watercolour Society of Ireland and a founder member of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists.
